A "Deacon" in plain Greek, simply means "one who serves." In the book of Acts 6:1-6, the first "deacons"
were appointed in the church. Generally, the services of deacons are meant to free the elders to devote their attention
to prayer and the ministry of the word (Ac 6:24).
In the Presbytery tradition a deacon serves a term of three years.
