According to the Presbyterian tradition, and in conformity with biblical precedent, Elders serve
as a part of the governing body in the church in which they are active members. Deacons and the communicant
membership of the church serve as the remaining localized governing body. The book of Acts gives a summary definition
of an Elder's duties and functions. Elders are entrusted with the duties to teach and preach (Acts 3:2;
5:17), to direct the affairs of the church (Acts 3:5; 5:17), to shepherd the flock of God (Acts 20:28), and to guard the church
from error (Acts 20:28-31).
Each Elder serves a term
of three years.
